ABOUT OUR AMISH HANDMADE BASKETS AND YOUR CHOICES:
The reeds and leather are all safely hand dyed by the old fashioned hot water Rit Dye method.
COLOR CHOICES:
We offer 5 choices of handmade basket styles and colors: plain reed; red pattern inserts; green pattern inserts; blue pattern inserts and what the Amish call Flag pattern. I call the Flag pattern Patriotic but want to use the Amish reference. If you so desire you can contact us (immediately upon placing your order) to have a basket crafted in a solid color of red, blue or green. When looking at the images (which were all taken on the porch of the Stutzman's home) please note the colors are nice and richly dark as lighter colors do not give a nice contrast to the natural reeds.
When placing your order if you made a mistake in your choice of color or pattern contact us immediately and we will make every effort to correct the error for you so you can receive the handmade basket choice you desire.
BASKET CARE
Proper basket care will bring you a liftime of enjoyment and we offer the following tips to help you with that care:
Place your baskets out of drastic temperature changes, direct sunlight, constant artificial lighting or extremely dusty areas.
Avoid heat registers which dries out natural materials causing brittleness & aging.
Leaving your basket in a constantly humid bathroom will affect the quality--recommendation is to move them around periodically.
Grease and odors are easily absorbed by Sea Grass, wood and reeds so when placing baskets in your kitchen keep your basket placement in mind along with a reminder about all those kitchen spills!
Beeswax should be applied to the wooden lids and handles using a soft cloth.
Any leather requires Saddle Soap applied with a soft cloth along with a tiny bit of water to soften the leather keeping it supple.
Never, never use chemicals of any kind on your baskets as this can easliy create permanent damage.
EVERY FEW MONTHS
Clean thouroughly using a soft feather duster or vegetable brush to loosen the dirt and dust from the surface and vacuum gently (Sea Grass is fragile when dry) with your soft brush. Then you can simply give a light spraying or sprinkling of plain water and use a slightly dampened cloth to gently wipe the edges of the baskets. This will add moisture to the natural materials helping prevent brittleness.
